Your cell phone or home wireless phone runs on electricity from a battery. Eventually you're going to need a new battery.
Every battery wears out. Most lithium-ion batteries will allow between 300 to 500 discharge/recharge cycles before they fail to take a new charge. And, these batteries fail sooner if they are fully discharged frequently.
A lithium-ion batter will typically last 2 to 3 years with normal use. But, over time the battery experiences a reduction in capacity due to increases in internal resistance. Increases in internal resistance saps power that could be delivered to your phone or other device. While the battery may still store enough energy to fully operate your phone, the number of minutes you can talk between charges is reduced.
How fast your battery ages depends to a large extent on the temperature of the battery. The colder the battery (closer to freezing) the longer the battery will last. The higher the temperature of your battery, the shorter its life will be. For this reason it is important not to leave your cell phone locked in your car on hot, sunny days. The temperatures in your car can hasten you cell phone battery's death.
This also means that you should ensure that your laptop battery remains as cool as possible. You should make sure there is as much air circulation through your laptop as possible to reduce heat, and so keep your laptop battery as cool as possible.
When you are going to plug in your laptop for use, you may want to remove your laptop battery. This will keep it cool even while your laptop heats up during use. Doing this will preserve your laptop battery as long as possible.
Once your lithium-ion battery dies, there is nothing you can do to restore it to life. You'll just have to buy a new battery.
